MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 11 FEBRUARY

THE 11th OF FEBRUARY

HOW MANY MIRACLES DO WE NEED TO RECOGNIZE GOD’S HAND AT WORK?

“Then the woman said to Elijah, ‘Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.'” – 1 Kings 17:24

It’s remarkable that the widow required further proof of Elijah’s connection to God, despite experiencing the daily miracle of unending flour and oil. She witnessed God’s provision as the flour and oil sustained her household, yet it wasn’t enough for her to fully believe in her heart. The Bible doesn’t specify the exact duration of this miracle, but it may have lasted over two years, as chapter 18 reveals that three years of drought had passed since Elijah went into hiding by the Brook Cherith.

Only after Elijah restored her son to life did the widow truly acknowledge, not just intellectually but emotionally, that Elijah was a man of God, speaking His truth. It took a second, more personal miracle for her faith to deepen. How often are we like this widow? It’s unfortunate that doubting comes more naturally to us than trusting in God’s love and faithfulness, even when we’ve seen His hand at work in our lives.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Lord, I need Your guidance every step of the way to follow Your Spirit rather than my doubting heart. Help me resist doubt and hold firmly to the truth of Your love, mercy, and kindness that endure forever. The widow’s faith was strengthened by Elijah’s restoring her son to life, may our faith remain strong in Your promise to never forsake us. Through Jesus, I have all I need to build strong faith, to trust Your will, and walk confidently in who You’ve created me to be. Thank You for Your unending grace. Amen
