THE 24th OF FEBRUARY
THE LORD UNDERSTANDS OUR PAIN AND DESIRES AND INTERVENES AT THE RIGHT TIME
“So he departed from there and found Elisha, son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him.” – 1 Kings 19:19
God had given Elijah three tasks, the last of which was appointing Elisha as his successor. Yet, Elijah chose to fulfill only this final task while seemingly disregarding the others. Why? Perhaps his deep discouragement after Jezebel’s threat led him to believe his time was up. When God instructed him to anoint Elisha as prophet in his place, he may have focused solely on this, hoping that God would then bring his struggles to an end.
However, Elijah remained on earth for several more years, continuing his prophetic work while mentoring Elisha. This shows how well God understood Elijah’s heart—above all else, Elijah needed the reassurance that his mission would be carried on. No other task would have brought him more comfort than knowing his work was nearing completion.
God is fully aware of our pain and desires. He sees the bigger picture and ensures that all things work together for our good. Yet, He does not impose His will upon us; He waits for us to be willing participants in His plan. There are times when God intervenes to protect us from harm, even when we do not realize it, but He never forces His way into our lives. Instead, He patiently waits for us to trust Him and allow Him to lead.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Thank You, Lord, for understanding my struggles and desires, just as You understood Elijah. Only You can see the full picture of my life and know what is truly best for me. Please grant me the wisdom to obey and fulfill all that You ask of me. Help me not to fall into despair or choose only what suits me while neglecting the rest of Your plans. I do not want to bring harm to myself or others. Thank You for never leaving me and for always providing help in times of need. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen
