MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 6 MARCH

THE 6TH OF MARCH

WE CAN KEEP OUR PEACE DURING HARDSHIPS, WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT JESUS OVERCAME THE WORLD

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

How can we maintain our peace and even smile in the midst of life’s hardships? You may feel that pretending to be joyful when your heart is heavy is insincere. While that may seem true, we can still learn to trust God through difficult times, overcoming sadness so that we do not burden those around us. After all, aren’t we affected when we are around unhappy people? In the same way, our sadness influences others. So, what should we do?

In our passage, the phrase “be of good cheer” comes from the Greek word “tharseó,” meaning “to be of good courage, to take heart, to be bold” (as noted in Strong’s Concordance). Jesus reminds us that tribulations are inevitable in this world, but we can hold onto His victory over it and the evil one. This assurance allows us to press forward with courage and joy, rather than being discouraged by present struggles. We are not alone in our hardships, and ultimately, Jesus has secured our victory! When we trust in Him and seek His help, He strengthens us. True courage and joy come from the Lord, while fear, sadness, and discouragement stem from the enemy.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Glory, praise, and honor to You, dear Lord, for who You are and all You have done for me. You have conquered the enemy and all his power. Thank You for the assurance that as long as I walk in obedience to You, nothing can defeat me, and I can have peace even in the midst of life’s storms. In You and through You, I have victory, and I can smile, knowing that You will bring me through this hardship as well. There is such strength in trusting You! Thank You with all my heart that nothing can make me fall if I am truly committed to following You! How could I ever thank You enough for dying in my place and for loving me with the greatest love? I love You, Lord, and I desire to follow in Your footsteps with all that I am and all that I have! Amen
