TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
10 AUGUST, 2026
John 12:24-26

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,
it remains just a grain of wheat;
but if it dies, it produces much fruit.

Whoever loves his life loses it,
and whoever hates his life in this world
will preserve it for eternal life.
Whoever serves me must follow me,
and where I am, there also will my servant be.
The Father will honor whoever serves me.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

SUMMARY OF THE GOSPEL

Jesus teaches that a grain of wheat must fall into the ground and die to produce a rich harvest. He explains that those who love their life will lose it, while those who serve and follow Him must be willing to let go of self-interest to receive eternal life and honor from the Father.

REFLECTION

This passage invites us to embrace the beauty of self-sacrifice. Just like the seed, we cannot bear spiritual fruit if we remain isolated and focused only on self-preservation. When we choose to “die” to our selfishness, pride, and comfort, God transforms our sacrifices into a life filled with purpose, service, and eternal value.

PRAYER

Lord, give me the courage to let go of my selfish desires so that I can truly live for You. Help me to serve others selflessly and follow Your footsteps, trusting that dying to myself leads to Your eternal joy. Amen.
