Matthew 5:20-26

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. “You have heard that it was said to the men of old, ‘You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment. But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be able judgment, whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to the hell of fire. So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

There is an old spiritual practice called Examination of Conscience, which helps us look within, confronting ourselves before God on how we have lived the day. Jesus urges us not to be like the scribes and Pharisees who live a life of piety as a show. But Jesus says, “When, looking within yourself, you recall to mind that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there and go and be reconciled first. Exhibitionism, anger, unforgiveness, are vices we must work hard to get rid of. May the Holy Spirit who helped the early Christians proclaim the Word through their word and action, empower us to become authentic Christians, only for the glory of God.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus Divine Mercy, give me courage and strength to overcome my fears, to stand firm in my faith, to live in accordance with your word, to walk the path of truth and love even when it is dangerous. Grant me the courage to have absolute trust in your care and protection over me even in the midst of the darkest situation in life. Amen

I’m sorry I’m not posting a prayer but pointing something out that I see a lot on Catholic websites. The icon you have of the first for June 14th is incorrect that’s not who that icon is portraying. Portraying a Russian Orthodox Saint by the same first name….Saint Methodius, Igumen of Peshnosha was the founder of the Peshnosha Monastery in Russia in the 14th century. Just FYI.
