TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
12 OCTOBER, 2026
Luke 11:29-32

While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah.

At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

SUMMARY OF THE GOSPEL
As crowds gather, Jesus calls them an “evil generation” for demanding a miraculous sign, declaring they will receive only the u of Jonah. He explains that just as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, the Son of Man will be a sign to this generation.

Jesus warns that the Queen of the Nineveh will condemn them at the judgment, because those foreigners repented at the preaching of Solomon and Jonah—yet someone greater than Solomon and Jonah is here.

REFLECTION
It is easy to fall into the trap of demanding “proof” from God, thinking that if He would just perform a specific miracle or answer a prayer exactly our way, we would believe Him more. Jesus addresses this heart posture by pointing out that the problem isn’t a lack of evidence, but a lack of willingness to repent. The religious leaders had God Himself standing right in front of them, yet they missed Him. We must check our own hearts: are we seeking God for spectacular signs, or are we willing to listen, change, and submit to the Ultimate Sign—Jesus’ death and resurrection?

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, Forgive us for the times we doubt Your presence or demand signs and conditions before we trust You. Thank you for this day and forgive the times when we hear Your Word, yet refuse to change our ways.

Open our eyes to see the ultimate proof of Your love and power already displayed on the cross and through the empty tomb. As we rest our tired bodies and weary hearts, transform us by Your Mercy.

Give us a soft, repentant heart like the Ninevites, ready to listen to Your voice and obey. Help us to truly recognize and honor You as the center of our life today. Grant that tomorrow our lives may bear witness to Your love. Amen
