TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
14 JUNE, 2025
Matthew 5:33-37

Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
Do not take a false oath,
but make good to the Lord all that you vow.
But I say to you, do not swear at all;
not by heaven, for it is God’s throne;
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;
nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Do not swear by your head,
for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’
Anything more is from the Evil One.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, Jesus addresses the issue of making oaths. He teaches that swearing by heaven, earth, Jerusalem, or even one’s own head is unnecessary, for all things belong to God. Instead, Jesus calls His followers to a life of integrity where their simple “Yes” or “No” is enough. This teaching challenges us to be truthful and transparent in all our dealings, avoiding exaggeration, deceit, or manipulation. Our words should carry weight not because of grand promises, but because they are grounded in truth and righteousness. A truthful heart reflects a life transformed by Christ.

PRAYER

Lord God, thank You for Your Word that teaches us the way of truth. Help us to speak with honesty and integrity in every area of our lives. Let our words be simple, sincere, and free from deceit. Teach us to honor You not just in what we say, but in how we live, that our lives may bear witness to Your truth. Guard our hearts from the temptation to embellish or manipulate, and instead, fill us with the courage to be people of our word. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen
