TODAY’S GOSPEL READING – 14 MARCH

TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
14 MARCH, 2026
Luke 18:9-14

Jesus addressed this parable
to those who were convinced of their own righteousness
and despised everyone else.
“Two people went up to the temple area to pray;
one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.
The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself,
‘O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity —
greedy, dishonest, adulterous — or even like this tax collector.
I fast twice a week,
and I pay tithes on my whole income.’
But the tax collector stood off at a distance
and would not even raise his eyes to heaven
but beat his breast and prayed,
‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’
I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former;
for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,
and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

Take a moment today to think about how you pray. Do you approach prayer with wisdom and humility? Like the tax collector, admit your need for God’s mercy. Pray sincerely from your heart: “O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” If you catch yourself thinking that your sins are not very serious, your prayer may resemble the Pharisee’s. Instead, face the truth honestly. Humbly admit your faults and sins to God, trusting in His mercy. Recognize that you depend completely on His grace. When you do this, like the tax collector, you will be made right with God.

PRAYER

Loving and merciful God, show compassion to me, for I am a sinner who needs Your help. I rely on You and seek Your forgiveness. Through Your grace, open my eyes so I can recognize my sins, confess them sincerely, and rejoice in the freedom of redemption. Fill my heart with humility, Lord, so that I may truly understand myself and be guided by Your wisdom. Amen
