TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
23 JUNE, 2026
Matthew 7:6, 12-14

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine,
lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you.
This is the Law and the Prophets.“Enter through the narrow gate;
for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction,
and those who enter through it are many.
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life.
And those who find it are few.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION ON MATTHEW 7:6, 12-14

In this passage, Jesus gives three important lessons for Christian living. First, He teaches us to value what is holy. The treasures of faith, truth, and God’s grace are precious gifts that should be received with reverence and shared with wisdom. We are called to discern when and how to speak about sacred things so that they may bear fruit in receptive hearts.

Second, Jesus gives the Golden Rule: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” This simple command summarizes a life of love, kindness, justice, and compassion. Before speaking, acting, or judging, we are invited to ask ourselves how we would wish to be treated in the same situation.

Finally, Jesus speaks of the narrow gate. The path to eternal life is not always the easiest one. It often requires self-denial, obedience, forgiveness, humility, and perseverance. The wider road may seem attractive because it demands little sacrifice, but it does not lead to lasting joy. The narrow way, though challenging, leads to true freedom and eternal life with God.

Every day we stand at a crossroads. Through our choices, words, and actions, we choose either the narrow path of Christ or the broad path of the world. Jesus encourages us to walk faithfully with Him, trusting that His way always leads to life.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Teach me to treasure the holy gifts You have entrusted to me and to share them with wisdom and love. Help me to treat others with the same kindness, mercy, and respect that I desire for myself, knowing that your grace is sufficient for me.

Give me the courage to choose the narrow path when it is difficult, to remain faithful when I am tempted, and to follow You with an undivided heart. May my life reflect Your truth and lead me ever closer to Your Kingdom. Amen
