TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
23 OCTOBER, 2025
Luke 12:49-53
✠ A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have come to set the earth on fire,
and how I wish it were already blazing!
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized,
and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.
From now on a household of five will be divided,
three against two and two against three;
a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
Jesus declares that He has come to bring fire on the earth—a purifying, refining fire that separates truth from falsehood and commitment from complacency. His mission was not to bring mere peace as the world understands it, but the peace that comes through righteousness and truth, even if it causes division. The Gospel challenges every person to choose: to stand with Christ or against Him. True discipleship may cost relationships, comfort, and approval, but it leads to eternal life and peace with God.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You came to set the world ablaze with the fire of Your love and truth. Kindle that same fire within my heart, that I may burn with zeal for Your Kingdom and never compromise my faith for the sake of convenience or peace. Strengthen me to stand firm in the face of opposition, to love courageously, and to follow You wholeheartedly, even when it divides me from the world. Amen
