TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
28 JUNE, 2026
Matthew 10:37–42

Jesus said to his apostles:
“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me,
and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
and whoever does not take up his cross
and follow after me is not worthy of me.
Whoever finds his life will lose it,
and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

“Whoever receives you receives me,
and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.
Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet
will receive a prophet’s reward,
and whoever receives a righteous man
because he is a righteous man
will receive a righteous man’s reward.
And whoever gives only a cup of cold water
to one of these little ones to drink
because the little one is a disciple—
amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

SUMMARY OF THE GOSPEL

Jesus outlines the radical demands and eternal rewards of true discipleship. Jesus declares that loyalty to Him must take precedence over closest family ties, requiring followers to carry their cross and surrender their lives to find true life. Finally, He promises that anyone who welcomes His messengers, or shows even the smallest kindness to a disciple, will be rewarded by God.

REFLECTION

Matthew 10:37-42 challenges us to examine our deepest loyalties and the cost of our commitments. It forces us to ask if we place comfort, reputation, or even family above our highest values and spiritual calling.

True growth requires sacrifice- dying to our old selves to discover a more authentic life. Ultimately, the passage reminds us that every small act of kindness matters, and genuine hospitality towards others reflects our heart’s true devotion.

PRAYER

Lord, grant me the courage to love You above all else. Help me surrender my comforts, take up my cross daily, and find my true life in Your service. Teach me to show genuine hospitality and kindness to others, trusting in Your faithful rewards. Amen.
