TODAY’S GOSPEL READING – 29 OCTOBER

TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
24 AUGUST, 2025
Luke 13:22-30

Jesus passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him,“Lord, will only a few people be saved?” He answered them,“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.

After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’
He will say to you in reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ And you will say,‘We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.’

Then he will say to you,‘I do not know where you are from.Depart from me, all you evildoers!’ And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out. And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the Kingdom of God.

For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, Jesus speaks about the narrow door, reminding us that entry into God’s Kingdom is not guaranteed by mere association or outward religiosity but through true faith, repentance, and obedience. Many will try to enter but will find the door shut because they delayed or relied on external status rather than genuine relationship with Christ. The image of people knocking and pleading shows the urgency of responding to God’s call now, not later. Jesus also warns that the last will be first and the first last, meaning God’s mercy extends beyond human expectations, and humility and faithfulness open the way into eternal life. This challenges us to examine whether we are truly walking with Christ or merely near Him in appearance.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the narrow door through which we must enter to find eternal life. Help me not to take Your call lightly or delay in responding to Your invitation. Give me a heart of true repentance, faith, and obedience that I may walk daily in Your ways. Remove pride, complacency, and false security, and clothe me with humility and perseverance. May I strive each day to live as Your disciple, ready for the Kingdom You have prepared. Keep me close to You, Lord, so that when the door is shut, I may be found within. Amen
