John 14:1–12

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.

Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.

Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

This passage is spoken in a moment of quiet tension. The disciples sense that something is about to change, and their hearts are unsettled. Into this uncertainty, Jesus speaks words of deep assurance: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” He does not remove the difficulty of the moment, but He invites them into trust. Faith becomes the anchor when clarity is lacking.

When Thomas voices his confusion, Jesus responds with one of the most profound declarations: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” He does not merely show a path—He is the path. The journey to God is not about mastering a method, but about entering into a relationship with Him. In knowing Jesus, we encounter truth itself and receive the life that does not fade.

Philip’s request to “see the Father” reflects a longing that lies deep within every human heart—the desire to know God fully. Jesus gently reveals that this desire is already fulfilled in Him. To see Christ is to see the Father’s love, mercy, and presence made visible. God is no longer distant or hidden; He is revealed in a living, personal way.

Finally, Jesus speaks of the works believers will do. This is not a call to human achievement but an invitation to participate in His mission. Through faith, ordinary lives become instruments of divine grace. Even in weakness, God’s power continues His work through those who trust in Him.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the Way when I feel lost, the Truth when I am confused, and the Life when my spirit grows weary.

Calm my troubled heart and deepen my trust in You. Help me to believe even when I do not fully understand. Teach me to see the Father in You and to rest in Your presence.

Use my life, however simple it may be, to continue Your work of love in the world. Guide me each day on the path that leads to You. Amen
