TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
30 SEPTEMBER, 2025
Luke 9:51-56
When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled,
he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem,
and he sent messengers ahead of him.
On the way they entered a Samaritan village
to prepare for his reception there,
but they would not welcome him
because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem.
When the disciples James and John saw this they asked,
“Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven
to consume them?”
Jesus turned and rebuked them,
and they journeyed to another village.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
In Luke 9:51-56, we see Jesus resolutely set His face toward Jerusalem, fully aware of the suffering awaiting Him. His determination reveals His obedience to the Father’s will and His deep love for humanity. When the Samaritans reject Him, the disciples respond with anger, wanting to call down fire, but Jesus rebukes them. His response reminds us that His mission is not one of destruction, but of mercy, patience, and salvation. This passage challenges us to examine how we respond to rejection, insult, or hostility. Instead of reacting with vengeance, we are called to follow Christ’s way of gentleness and forgiveness, carrying His peace wherever we go.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You steadfastly walked the road to Jerusalem out of love for us. Teach us to follow Your example with courage and humility. When we face rejection or misunderstanding, help us to respond with compassion and not anger. Rebuke in us every spirit of vengeance, and fill us with Your Spirit of patience and mercy. May our lives bear witness to Your love, even when it is not received. Grant us the grace to walk in Your footsteps with steadfast faith, trusting that Your way is always life and peace. Amen
