TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
4 APRIL, 2025
John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30
Jesus moved about within Galilee;
he did not wish to travel in Judea,
because the Jews were trying to kill him.
But the Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near.
But when his brothers had gone up to the feast,
he himself also went up, not openly but as it were in secret.
Some of the inhabitants of Jerusalem said,
“Is he not the one they are trying to kill?
And look, he is speaking openly and they say nothing to him.
Could the authorities have realized that he is the Christ?
But we know where he is from.
When the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.”
So Jesus cried out in the temple area as he was teaching and said,
“You know me and also know where I am from.
Yet I did not come on my own,
but the one who sent me, whom you do not know, is true.
I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”
So they tried to arrest him,
but no one laid a hand upon him,
because his hour had not yet come.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
In this passage, Jesus moves with caution, knowing that opposition against Him is growing. While His brothers urge Him to go openly to the Feast of Tabernacles, He chooses to go in secret, following the Father’s timing rather than human expectations. When He finally teaches in the temple, the people are divided—some recognize His wisdom and authority, while others seek to silence Him. Yet, despite the threats, no one can lay a hand on Him because His time has not yet come.
This reminds us that God’s plans unfold in His perfect timing. Even in moments of uncertainty, opposition, or doubt, we are called to trust that He is in control. Like Jesus, we should seek to align our lives with God’s will rather than rushing ahead or fearing resistance.
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that Your timing is always perfect. Help us to trust in Your plan, even when we face challenges or feel pressured to act according to the world’s expectations. Give us the wisdom to follow You faithfully and the courage to stand firm in our faith. May we always seek Your will above all else. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen
