TODAY’S GOSPEL READING – 6 JUNE

TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
6 JUNE, 2026
Mark 12:38-44

In His teaching Jesus said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in marketplaces, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets. They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small coins, which are worth very little.

Then He called His disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those contributing to the treasury. For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she, out of her poverty, has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

Jesus contrasts outward appearances with the hidden beauty of a sincere heart. The scribes sought honor, recognition, and admiration, but the widow quietly offered all she had without expecting praise. God does not measure generosity by size but by love, sacrifice, and trust.

The widow teaches us that true discipleship is not about what remains after giving; it is about placing our lives confidently in God’s hands. Even the smallest offering becomes great when given with faith and love.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, teach me to seek humility rather than recognition and generosity rather than comfort. Give me the courage to trust You with all that I have and all that I am. Help me to offer You not only my possessions but my heart, my time, and my love. May I learn from the widow to give with sincerity and faith, knowing that You see what others cannot. Amen
