TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
7 NOVEMBER, 2025
Luke 16:1-8
Jesus said to his disciples: “There was a rich man who had a steward; and this steward was accused to him of wasting his goods.
And the rich man called him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship; for you can no longer be steward.’
The steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg.
I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their homes.
So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, “How much do you owe my master?”
He said, “A hundred measures of olive-oil.” He said to him, “Take your bill, and sit down quickly, write fifty.”
Then he said to another, “And how much do you owe?” He said, “A hundred measures of wheat.” He said to him, “Take your bill and write eighty.”
And the master commended that dishonest steward for acting shrewdly; for the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the children of light.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
In this parable, Jesus presents a steward whose dishonesty is exposed, yet he is commended by his master — not for the dishonesty itself, but for his shrewdness in securing his future. This paradox draws our attention to how we use the resources, relationships, and opportunities entrusted to us.
As followers of Christ, we are called not merely to avoid wrongdoing, but to live the Gospel actively: to be wise in service, generous in heart, alert to the needs of others, and faithful in little things. If the “children of this world” can act with cunning for temporal gain, how much more are the “children of light” called to act with integrity, generosity and foresight for eternal goods?
Today’s reading challenges us: What are we doing with what has been entrusted to us — our talents, our time, our relationships? Are we setting aside something for the future in God’s kingdom — love, mercy, justice? Are we using our stewardship to draw others into communion with Christ, to build up rather than tear down?
May we embrace the role of faithful stewards of God’s grace, turning our hearts not to the fleeting wealth of this world, but to the treasures of the Kingdom that endure.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, You entrust me with many blessings — time, talent, treasure, and relationships. Help me to be a wise steward of all you give. Grant me the courage to serve generously, the clarity to discern what matters most, and the humility to act with integrity. Free me from being enslaved by lesser things, and open my heart to build for everlasting life. May my actions honour you, uplift others, and reflect the light of Christ in the world.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen
