TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
9 JUNE, 2025
John 19:25-34

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary of Magdala.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her,
he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
After this, aware that everything was now finished,
in order that the scripture might be fulfilled,
Jesus said, “I thirst.”
There was a vessel filled with common wine.
So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop
and put it up to his mouth.
When Jesus had taken the wine, he said,
“It is finished.”
And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.

Now since it was preparation day,
in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath,
for the sabbath day of that week was a solemn one,
the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken
and they be taken down.
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first
and then of the other one who was crucified with Jesus.
But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead,
they did not break his legs,
but one soldier thrust his lance into his side,
and immediately Blood and water flowed out.

REFLECTION

Lord Jesus, as I reflect on the scene at the foot of the Cross, I am moved by the profound love and sorrow that radiate from this moment. Your mother stood near You, faithful in her pain, silently suffering with You in Your agony. In the midst of Your own suffering, You turned to her and to John, binding them together in a new relationship born of love and care. Even in death, You taught us how to love selflessly and sacrificially. May I learn to love like You, placing others before myself, even when my own heart is heavy with pain.

From Your pierced side flowed blood and water, signs of the life and grace poured out for the world. This moment is not only one of death, but of divine mercy and hope. You did not hold back anything, giving all so that we may live. In this sacred outpouring, I see the foundation of the Church and the fountain of the sacraments. Help me to never take Your sacrifice for granted. Let me come often to the well of Your mercy, to be renewed and healed by the grace that still flows from Your Cross.

PRAYER

O Jesus, Crucified Savior, I come before You with a humble heart. Let me stand with Mary and John at the foot of Your Cross—not in fear or despair, but in faith and love. Teach me to be present with those who suffer, just as they were present with You. Open my heart to receive the life You offer, and give me the courage to carry my own cross, trusting that in every death, there is the promise of resurrection. Amen

Matthew 5:1-12

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.
Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

Jesus needs our full cooperation at this moment and we are here to abide to His teachings and instructions written in the Gospel and one of these are the beatitudes that centralized on the character of a true Christian in which our main goal is to become Christlike in manner, in thoughts and in deeds. On the last part, Jesus emphasized that those who experienced the persecution, the insults and the rejection all because of the Son of Man will receive a reward just like the true Prophets. This is the reason why we need to embrace the hatred of this world and choose to become a true disciple of Christ through the little crosses that we carry daily.

The fact that we live in this land not to choose pleasure brought by the earthly things for everytime we are driven to this kind of situation we are leading ourselves far from our King. As a result, we become more prideful, arrogant, disobedient and hard hearted and this reality will usher for more chaos as well as more doubts and confusion, leading for more persecution to arise and bring humanity to its fall down. Moreover, the moment we embrace the works of the devil, we are making ourselves more sinful and displeasing to God’s eyes. Yet, as we comprehend this Gospel, we will experience the enlightenment which will start from a pure and spotless heart, a Christlike heart and in this way many will be included in the body of Christ whose goal is to do the will of God and become obedient to the things our Lord had taught.

PRAYER

I knew it is kindness that you want my Lord, so please help me to become more charitable to the poor and the needy not only on financial aspect but spiritually as well for in this way I am expressing my love to you. Help me to comprehend the things you taught and put it into practice so as I undergo persecution I will stay calm and relax not allowing fear to empower me. My Jesus, keep me safe in your most Sacred Heart as I journey home. Amen
