TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
21 SEPTEMBER, 2026
Matthew 9:9-13
As Jesus passed by,
he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post.
He said to him, “Follow me.”
And he got up and followed him.
While he was at table in his house,
many tax collectors and sinners came
and sat with Jesus and his disciples.
The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples,
“Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
He heard this and said,
“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.
Go and learn the meaning of the words,
I desire mercy, not sacrifice.
I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
Matthew was sitting at the tax booth when Jesus called him.
Jesus did not focus on Matthew’s past. He saw the person Matthew could become through God’s grace.
And when Jesus said, “Follow me,” Matthew got up and followed Him.
Maybe today, you feel unworthy because of your mistakes, failures, or past.
Remember this: Jesus does not wait for you to become perfect before He calls you.
His mercy is greater than your mistakes. His love is greater than your past. And His purpose for your life is still possible.
Just as Jesus called Matthew, He is also calling you—to leave behind what keeps you away from Him and take another step in faith.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me despite my weaknesses and failures.
Heal my heart, forgive my sins, and give me the courage to follow You.
Teach me to show mercy instead of judgment and love instead of condemnation.
Help me respond to Your call with a willing heart. Jesus, lead me and use my life for Your glory. Amen
