“The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
— John 6:51
Carlo Acutis recognised the Eucharist as the real presence of Jesus and the greatest expression of His divine love. He attended Mass daily, received Holy Communion frequently and spent time in Eucharistic Adoration. He called the Eucharist his highway to Heaven.
Every Holy Communion invites us into a deeper union with Christ. Holiness begins not with extraordinary achievements but with a faithful response to Jesus, who gives Himself to us in the Blessed Sacrament.
“Be holy, because I am holy”
— 1 Peter 1:16
Carlo demonstrated that holiness is possible even in the ordinary life of a young person. He enjoyed computers, football and friendships while remaining deeply committed to prayer, the Eucharist and helping those in need. He showed that sainthood is not reserved for priests, religious or mystics.
We do not need to live in a monastery to become saints. We need to allow God’s grace to transform our daily responsibilities, relationships and ordinary acts of kindness into expressions of extraordinary love.
“Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.”
— Mark 16:15
Carlo used his computer skills to create an exhibition documenting Eucharistic miracles from around the world. He recognised that modern technology could become a powerful instrument for evangelisation, bringing people closer to Jesus through the digital world.
Our screens can spread either darkness or light. Every message, post and interaction can become an opportunity to share truth, kindness and faith. Like Carlo, we are called to use technology responsibly and make Christ known wherever people gather, including online.
“I am now rejoicing in my sufferings for your sake.”
— Colossians 1:24
When Carlo was diagnosed with acute leukaemia, he accepted his suffering with remarkable faith and offered his pain for the Pope and the Church. Despite his illness, he remained concerned about others and faced his final days with trust in God.
Suffering does not become easy simply because we have faith. However, when united with Christ crucified, our trials can become offerings of love and prayer for others. Carlo reminds us to seek God’s presence even in moments of weakness and uncertainty.
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”.
— Psalm 139:14
Carlo’s famous saying, “All people are born originals, but many die photocopies,” encourages us to discover and fulfil the unique purpose God has given each of us. He did not allow worldly attractions to overshadow his identity as a child of God.
True holiness means becoming the person God created us to be. Instead of copying the values and ambitions of the world, we are called to imitate Christ, develop our God-given gifts and live with integrity, humility and love.
“Abide in me as I abide in you.”
— John 15:4
Carlo’s life was centred on his friendship with Jesus. His daily participation in the Eucharist, devotion to Our Lady and commitment to prayer helped him remain united with God. He expressed his guiding principle in these words: “Being always united with Jesus, this is my life plan.”
When Christ becomes the centre of our lives, He strengthens us through difficulties and fills us with a deeper joy that circumstances cannot easily destroy. Like Carlo, we are invited to remain close to Jesus in prayer, receive Him in the Eucharist and recognise His presence in everyone we encounter.
O God, who granted St. Carlo Acutis the grace to unite youthful enthusiasm with a profound love for the Eucharist, help us to follow his example.
Teach us to discover Your presence in ordinary life, to use technology for Your glory and to transform our daily actions into steps towards Heaven.
May we cherish the Holy Eucharist as our highway to Heaven, remain united with Jesus in every circumstance and spread the light of Christ throughout the digital world.
St. Carlo Acutis, faithful witness to Eucharistic love, pray for us and help us grow in holiness.
Amen.
