Luke 1: 76-79

3 December, 2020

And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace. Luke 1:76–79

Merciful Father, our Awesome Living God, Light of the world, you are the maker and master of our destiny which is eternal salvation of our souls. You sent John the Baptist as a vessel to prepare the way for our Messiah, Jesus Christ, to usher in the dawn of our salvation and the light of peace, just as the darkness of night dissipates with the coming of dawn, bringing with it the flaming light of the sun.

Jesus fulfilled the mission of releasing us from the strangling clutches of sin and death, exposing the evil one and revealing the mercy of your healing, unconditional love. He saved us and brought us into communion with you. Through him we have obtained remission of our grievances and absolute deliverance, encircled with your grace by our faith.

Lord, the marvelous work of your hands has upheld and lifted us out of the tyranny of transgressions. You are a mighty keeper of promises, which, once uttered is irrevocable and your covenant with us will last forever. In our deliverance is your gift of redemption. In the triumph of peace and justice is your glory and victory. The fulfillment of your word is your abiding and amazing faithfulness.

As we tread the path of righteousness, drawing others into fellowship with you, we rejoice that we have hope in our despair, light, pure and cleansing, filtering through the impregnable darkness, unwavering fidelity in your immense love and unshaken trust that we will one day behold your radiant countenance and be restored to you forever, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
