Luke 22:42

Saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.” – Luke 22:42

Eternal Father, your infinite love for mankind is manifested in you sending your Word, made flesh, incarnate, to rescue us from damnation and the ignominy of sin and its eternal bondage. We know that every word emanating from you, does not return void, but fulfills the purpose for which you sent it. Likewise, Jesus knew he had to go through unbearable and immense suffering and death, to lift the curse of our multitude of transgressions and rescue and redeem mankind for all eternity, by the will of the Father.

But Jesus, being divine and mortal had to undergo indeterminate mental distress, the signs of a mortal mind, to set himself to accomplish your will and obediently fulfill your holy plan to its completion. Jesus, acknowledging his mortal mind and filled with fear at the demonstration he was about to enter, cried out to you in deep anguish If there was some way those fears could be allayed, and displayed the human fear of suffering and death which had to be experienced, to be known. Yet, he never lost his focus on what his Christ mind knew he had to undertake, to fulfill his purpose and your will.

Father, it is reassuring to know that fear, being a natural reaction to the unknown, does not compare with weakness, and we don’t have to be completely free of fear in order to move forward on our spiritual path. We can honestly admit and acknowledge our fear without giving it power or priority in our life. Help us to focus on our purpose of this pilgrimage on earth and to accept all that is in accordance with your Holy plan for us, to be in complete conformity with you and in confidence of the rewards it carries, through Christ our Lord.

Amen
