GOD, OUR SOURCE OF COMFORT

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

It’s important to remember that God is not only the Father of our Lord, but He is also our Father, the ultimate source of mercy and comfort. Our Lord, the Creator of compassion and mercy, gave His only Son to die on the cross for our salvation. Imagine the pain in His heart as He watched His Son endure such suffering. God the Father experienced this agony alone, as Jesus bore the sins of humanity, and the Father had to forsake His beloved Son for our sake.

Reflecting on the sorrow that the cross brought to both God the Father and His Son helps us understand that our Heavenly Father truly empathizes with our suffering. He is always ready to comfort us in our trials and guide us through them.

When we face difficult times and choose to comfort and support others who are struggling, we often find that our own burdens feel lighter and our healing comes more quickly. The comfort we receive from God is meant to be shared with others, as the Holy Spirit leads us. In doing so, we will never be in want.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Father God, thank You for the endless mercy and comfort You have given me in times of need. You always find the perfect way to lift me up and bring healing when I am hurting. Life with You is so much more bearable. Please help me to be attentive to the needs of others and to respond as the Holy Spirit guides, so that I may offer the same comfort to others that You have given to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
