MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 23 JANUARY

THE 23rd OF JANUARY

CRUCIFY YOUR CARNAL NATURE DAILY AND WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD

“Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.” – Colossians 3:5-6

It is our responsibility to crucify our sinful nature daily, putting to death the desires of the flesh and turning away from sin. How does something alive die? It dies when it is no longer fed. To overcome sin, we must stop fueling it—avoid the people, places, or habits tied to it. For example, if anger is your struggle, step back from situations or people that provoke you. Turn your heart to God in prayer, asking for His guidance and peace to defuse the situation and prevent sin from taking root.

As believers, we have the Holy Spirit within us, and through Him, we bear the fruit of self-control. The enemy often uses our past habits to convince us we cannot change, but this is a lie. The truth is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Thank You, Jesus, for making it possible for me to be born again through the Spirit. Because of this, I am no longer controlled by the lust of the flesh but led by Your Holy Spirit. Through Your Spirit, I have the power to resist and overcome any sinful temptation. Lord, help me always remember that I have died to sin through You, and sin no longer has control over me. Strengthen me daily to resist the enemy’s traps and walk in victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
