THE POWER OF OUR WORDS
“A person of knowledge restrains their words, and a person of understanding is even-tempered. Even a fool is thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongue.” Proverbs 17:27-28
Knowledge is a valuable asset, but it becomes truly impactful when applied wisely. It is not enough to simply know what pleases God; we must also live in alignment with that knowledge. When we apply what we learn, it produces real results. As we study and grow in God’s Word, we learn to control our behavior, including how we speak. Often, we regret saying too much or speaking out of turn. By seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit, we can learn when to speak, what to say, and how to speak in a way that honors God.
The way we communicate reflects our character. Through our words, we can be perceived as thoughtful, wise, and respectful, or as foolish, arrogant, and inconsiderate. The less we speak, the less likely we are to make mistakes. By choosing our words carefully, we can avoid unnecessary arguments, gossip, and statements we may later regret.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom You provide and for Your ongoing guidance. Help me to grow in the knowledge of Your Word and to gain more wisdom so that my thoughts, words, and actions align with Your will. Teach me when to speak and when to remain silent, so I may be a thoughtful, kind person with a heart that is pure and honest. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen
