SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. Jn 3:16–18

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you…If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. –    John 14:18, 23

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is celebrated on the Sunday following Pentecost Sunday. The Blessed Trinity is the mystery of one God in three Divine Persons and is the supernatural mystery of our Christian faith and life, because it cannot be understood by reason alone. God reveals himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a Triune Godhead.

With the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, the entire Catholic Church celebrates the ineffable mystery of God’s intimate life. The Most Holy Trinity is a central part of our faith and the source of all gifts and graces. We need to have a loving union with the three Divine Persons of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to adore, praise and glorify God, which is our purpose here on earth.

We need to acknowledge God’s mercy, goodness and majesty, freely and consciously exalting and serving God, so that our entire life becomes a pleasing sacrifice to God. There is no situation, no time, when worship is not the principal mission of man.

By seeking the glory of God, through knowing and loving him, human beings attain their end, as their true happiness lies precisely in giving glory to God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, in Whose Presence they will be forever, in their eternal home.

PRAYER

God our Father, Creator and Maker of the universe and all it contains, you are the Lord our God, the One, Living God and through your commandment, we love and obey you alone, with our whole heart, and with our whole being, and with our whole strength, for you revealed yourself to the chosen people, as the one and only Living God.

Our Christian belief that there are three Divine Persons in one God, was revealed by the life and words, of our Lord Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Holy Trinity, when he proclaimed to the Apostles that he was the Son of God, Who came from the Father and was one, with you. He revealed the truth of your kingdom and forged your new covenant with us, dying to free us from sin and give us salvation.

As followers of Christ, we come to know and understand that the Holy Spirit is also God, when Jesus declares that the Advocate would come, after his ascension, sent to us from the Father, and this Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, would testify to Jesus being your only Son.

Before his Passion, Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit as teacher, guide, and consoler. The appearance at Pentecost and at other events in the New Testament gives ample evidence of the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity.

Your doctrine of Truth states the three Divine Persons existing as one God. Each of the Persons is fully God, a unity of Persons in one divine nature, distinct from each other.

Father, just as you cannot be the Father without the Son, Jesus cannot be the Son without the Father. The Holy Spirit is related to you, Father and the Son, who both send him forth to us.

All Christians are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. By the grace of Baptism, we are called to share in the life of the Blessed Trinity, here on earth in the obscurity of faith, and after death in eternal light. The Trinity enlightens all the other mysteries of faith.

God our Father, who by sending into the world the Word of truth and the Spirit of sanctification made known to the human race your wondrous mystery; Grant we pray, that in professing the true faith, we may acknowledge the truth of the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, giving praise and honor, to this divine mystery, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
