TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
11 JANUARY, 2026
Matthew 3:13-17

✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

Jesus came from Galilee
to John at the Jordan
to be baptized by him.
John tried to prevent him, saying,
“I need to be baptized by you,
and yet you are coming to me?”
Jesus said to him in reply,
“Allow it now,
for thus it is fitting for us
to fulfill all righteousness.”
Then he allowed him.
After Jesus was baptized,
he came up from the water and behold,
the heavens were opened for him,
and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove
and coming upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens, saying,
“This is my beloved Son,
with whom I am well pleased.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

Jesus, despite His real identity as the Son of the living God, allowed Himself to be baptized by John and that happened due to His humility and obedience to the instructions of our God the Father. So the Holy Spirit like a dove went down to Jesus and stayed with Him. On the other hand,, a revelation came where a voice was heard by John from our God the Father, pointing to Jesus as His most beloved Son with whom He is pleased.

The fact is, that in order for us to be called as adopted sons and daughters of the most high God we need to receive the Sacrament of baptism which is a way of sharing in the divinity of Christ. Then we are being nourished by the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, were we receive Jesus with a clean heart and the pureness of our hearts will be achieved everytime we come to confession and be freed from mortal sins.

Although there were questions from those who were outside of the true church, yet we could not deny the reality that the Sacrament which was handed down by our Lord to His successors was a part of our journey as true Catholics and indeed it will strengthen our Faith and lead us to be called reborn Christians whose goal is to enter heaven and live with our King.

PRAYER

My Jesus your identity was revealed to John so I pray for more Christians to be exposed to the truth and be reborn in the Spirit through the Sacraments that we received and be strengthened in Faith, Hope and Love. Amen
