TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
22 JUNE, 2025
Luke 9:11b-17
Jesus spoke to the crowds about the kingdom of God, and he healed those who needed to be cured.
As the day was drawing to a close, the Twelve approached him and said, “Dismiss the crowd so that they can go to the surrounding villages and farms and find lodging and provisions; for we are in a deserted place here.”
He said to them, “Give them some food yourselves.” They replied, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have, unless we ourselves go and buy food for all these people.”
Now the men there numbered about five thousand. Then he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty.”
They did so and made them all sit down.
Then taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
In the above passage we see Jesus welcoming the crowd, teaching them about the kingdom of God, healing the sick, and ultimately performing the miracle of feeding over five thousand people with just five loaves and two fish. This passage is a profound reminder of Jesus’ compassion, provision, and power. He did not send the people away in their need; instead, He met them where they were and satisfied both their spiritual and physical hunger.
The disciples, seeing the limited resources, urged Jesus to dismiss the crowd. But Jesus challenged them to participate in the miracle: “You give them something to eat.” This highlights how God often invites us into His work, asking for our trust and obedience even when the resources seem insufficient. What we place in Jesus’ hands—however small—can be multiplied beyond our imagination.
This passage is a call to faith, compassion, and generosity. It reminds us that no situation is too great for God, and when we offer what little we have in faith, He can turn scarcity into abundance. The miracle is not just about feeding bodies, but about revealing the heart of a Savior who provides completely.
PRAYER
Gracious Lord,
Thank You for being the Shepherd who sees and cares for every need. Just as You welcomed the crowds, taught them, healed them, and fed them, I ask You to minister to the places in my life and in others where there is lack and need. Help me to trust that what I bring to You—though small in my eyes—is more than enough in Yours.
Teach me to have a heart of compassion, willing to serve and to give. May I never hold back my offerings out of fear or doubt, but entrust them to You with confidence in Your power to multiply. Use me, Lord, as Your vessel to bless others, and help me to always look to You as the source of all provision. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
