TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
25 JULY, 2025
Matthew 20:20–28
The mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons and asked that her sons be granted a place of honor in His kingdom. Jesus replied:
“You do not know what you are asking.…
My ‘cup’ you will indeed drink, but to sit at my right or left is not mine to grant …
You know that the rulers of the Gentiles … lord it over them,
but it shall not be so among you.
Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant,
and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave—
even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
Jesus turns worldly ambition upside down. True greatness in His Kingdom is not about authority or status, but about humility, service, and self-giving.
By speaking of drinking His cup, Jesus invites His followers into His suffering and mission. Discipleship involves sacrifice, perseverance, and identification with Him, even in pain.
To follow Jesus is to embrace service, even unto sacrifice. Yet in serving and surrendering, we discover Christ’s presence and the deeper life He offers.
PRAYER
Lord God,may this Gospel today inspire us to lead through love, serve with joy, and follow Christ more fully, together with the humility and courage of the saints. Teach us to give first place to our brethren and may be live in service of all, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
