TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
3 SEPTEMBER, 2025
Luke 4:38-44

Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon.
Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.
So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her.
She got up at once and began to wait on them.
At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!”
But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.
At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place.
The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.
But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”
And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

This passage reveals Jesus’ compassion and mission. He responds immediately to Simon’s family in need, bringing healing and restoration. His power over sickness and demons demonstrates that God’s kingdom is breaking into the world through him. Yet, despite the crowds and their desire to keep him close, Jesus does not remain in one place. His mission is universal — to bring the good news of God’s kingdom to all. We are reminded that his healing is not only physical but also spiritual, and his ministry is driven by the Father’s will, not human expectations.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the healer of body and soul. Just as You lifted up Simon’s mother-in-law and restored the sick who came to You, lift us from our weaknesses and renew us in Your love. Teach us to seek not only Your blessings but also to embrace Your mission of sharing the Good News with others. Give us strength to follow Your example of prayer, compassion, and purpose, so that our lives may reflect the light of Your kingdom. Amen
