TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
31 JULY, 2025
Matthew 13:47-53

Jesus said to the disciples:
“The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good into buckets.
What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age.
The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous
and throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”

“Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.”
And he replied,
“Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven
is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom
both the new and the old.”
When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

Lord, as I reflect on the parable of the net, I am struck by the image of the fishermen gathering fish of every kind. Just as the net gathers all, Your kingdom gathers people from every background, culture, and walk of life. But there comes a time of separation—a time when what is good is kept and what is unworthy is cast away. This is both sobering and enlightening. You call me to live intentionally, to embrace righteousness, and to be counted among those who are found faithful. Help me remember that Your grace invites all, but Your holiness discerns the heart.

Jesus, when You asked if we understood these things, You reminded us that every scribe instructed in the kingdom is like a householder bringing out treasures old and new. You value wisdom that is rooted in the past and open to present revelation. Teach me to treasure both the ancient truths of Scripture and the fresh insights You reveal daily. Let me be someone who shares these treasures with others—offering both foundation and inspiration.

And Lord, when You left Your hometown and were rejected by those closest to You, it reminds me that even truth can be dismissed by familiarity. May I never let comfort or past assumptions blind me to Your presence and truth today. Give me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart that welcomes You always, even when Your ways challenge my expectations.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing the mystery of Your kingdom through parables that teach, convict, and inspire. Help me to live with the end in view, seeking to be among those who are gathered into Your eternal joy. Shape my character to reflect Your righteousness and holiness, and give me grace to walk daily in Your truth.

Lord Jesus, help me to be a faithful steward of Your Word—bringing out treasures from both what has been known and what You are making known now. May my life reflect both the stability of Your eternal truth and the freshness of Your living Spirit. Strengthen my witness, and help me lead others into the beauty of Your kingdom.

Holy Spirit, guard my heart from pride, prejudice, or complacency that can reject truth when it comes close. May I always be receptive to Your voice, even when it comes from unexpected places. Let my life honor Christ, not just in word, but in action, love, and obedience. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen
