TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
4 NOVEMBER, 2025
Luke 14:15–24

When one of those who sat at table with Him heard these things, he said to Jesus,
“Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many,
and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited,
‘Come, for all things are now ready.’ But they all with one accord began to make excuses.
The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’
And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them.
I ask you to have me excused.’ Still another said,
‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’
So that servant came and reported these things to his master.
Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant,
‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’
And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’
Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this parable, Jesus reveals the generous heart of God who invites all to share in His heavenly banquet. The invitation symbolizes salvation and fellowship with God, extended freely to everyone. Yet, the excuses made by the invited guests show how easily worldly concerns and attachments can blind us to God’s call. Our possessions, relationships, and ambitions, though good in themselves, can become obstacles when they take precedence over the Kingdom. The Lord’s command to bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame reminds us that God’s grace reaches beyond the expected — His invitation is for the humble and the willing, not just the privileged or self-satisfied.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for inviting me to Your table of grace. Forgive me for the times I have been too distracted by worldly cares to respond to Your call. Help me to value Your invitation above all else and to approach You with humility and gratitude. Open my heart to welcome others to Your feast of love, especially those whom the world overlooks. May I always be ready to say “yes” to You and live as a faithful guest in Your Kingdom. Amen
