TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
8 JUNE, 2026
Matthew 5:1-12
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
THE BEATITUDES
He said: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
In today’s Gospel, Jesus presents the Beatitudes, a roadmap to true happiness and holiness. The world often equates happiness with wealth, power, comfort, and recognition. Yet Jesus turns these values upside down. He calls blessed those who are poor in spirit, meek, merciful, pure of heart, peacemakers, and even those who suffer for righteousness.

The Beatitudes remind us that God’s kingdom belongs to those who trust Him completely. They teach us that genuine joy is not found in possessing more but in becoming more like Christ. Even in moments of sorrow, struggle, or rejection, God is present and working in our lives. What the world may see as weakness, God transforms into strength and grace.

Life Application
Take time today to examine which Beatitude speaks most directly to your current situation. Are you called to be more merciful, more humble, or more committed to making peace? Seek opportunities to live out that Beatitude in your family, workplace, school, or community. Remember that holiness is not achieved through extraordinary actions alone but through faithful, loving choices each day.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for teaching us the path to true blessedness. Help us to embrace the values of Your kingdom even when they differ from the values of the world. Grant us humble hearts, a spirit of mercy, a desire for justice, and the courage to remain faithful amid trials. May we become instruments of Your peace and witnesses of Your love. Guide us each day to live the Beatitudes and draw closer to You. Amen.
