SEEK THE TRUTH WITH AN OPEN HEART
“Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

Edith Stein was born into a Jewish family in 1891 and, during her youth, became an ardent seeker of truth. Although she temporarily abandoned religious belief, her sincere search eventually led her to Christ. After reading the autobiography of Saint Teresa of Ávila, she spent the night reading and finally declared, “This is the truth.” Her conversion reminds us that an honest search for truth can lead us directly to God.
LET GOD TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation.”

After her conversion, Edith was baptized in 1922 and took the name Teresa, inspired by Saint Teresa of Ávila. She desired to give herself completely to Christ and eventually entered the Carmelite monastery in Cologne in 1933, becoming Sister Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. Her life shows that conversion is not merely a change of belief but a complete surrender of one’s life to God.
DISCOVER GOD IN SUFFERING

Teresa Benedicta understood the Cross not simply as suffering but as a path of union with Christ. As persecution of Jews intensified under the Nazi regime, she was transferred to the Carmelite monastery in Echt, Netherlands, with her sister Rosa. When arrested by the Nazis in 1942, she accepted her suffering with remarkable faith, seeing herself united with Christ in His Passion.
STRENGTHEN OTHERS THROUGH FAITH

Teresa Benedicta was a gifted philosopher, teacher and writer who used her intellectual abilities to seek and communicate truth. Even amid persecution, she remained concerned for others and encouraged those around her. Her life teaches us that our talents are gifts from God, meant not for personal glory but for strengthening the faith and dignity of others.
STAND FIRM IN YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”

Teresa Benedicta never denied her Jewish origins. She saw her Jewish heritage and Christian faith in the light of God’s mysterious plan of salvation. When the Nazi persecution intensified, she accepted the consequences of being both Jewish by birth and Catholic by faith. Her courageous witness teaches us to remain faithful to God even when doing so demands great sacrifice.
OFFER YOURSELF FOR OTHERS
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Teresa Benedicta once expressed her desire to offer herself to God for the salvation of others. When she was arrested, she remained calm and compassionate, comforting her sister Rosa and others who were suffering. Her final journey became an offering of love united with Christ’s sacrifice.
LET PRAYER BECOME YOUR INNER STRENGTH

Prayer was at the heart of Teresa Benedicta’s life. Whether as a scholar, teacher, Carmelite nun or prisoner, she sought to remain united with God. Her profound interior life enabled her to face uncertainty and persecution without losing hope. She teaches us that when prayer becomes the centre of our lives, God gives us strength to endure whatever comes.
LOVE CHRIST THROUGH THE CROSS
“I have decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

Teresa Benedicta chose “of the Cross” as part of her religious name because she understood that the Cross was central to her vocation. She consciously united her sufferings with those of Christ. Her martyrdom at Auschwitz in August 1942 became the ultimate expression of that offering. Her life reminds us that authentic love is willing to sacrifice.
LIVE WITH COURAGE AND HOPE
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified.”
— Deuteronomy 31:6
When the Gestapo came to arrest Teresa Benedicta and Rosa, she reportedly took her sister’s hand and said, “Come, we are going for our people.” These words reveal her courage and solidarity with those who were suffering. She faced death not with despair but with trust in God. Saint Teresa Benedicta teaches us that Christian courage is not the absence of fear but faithfulness in the midst of fear.
BECOME A WITNESS TO TRUTH AND LOVE
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross united intellectual brilliance, contemplative prayer, compassion and courageous sacrifice. From a seeker of truth she became a disciple of Christ, a Carmelite nun and finally a martyr. Her life invites us to seek truth sincerely, embrace the Cross faithfully and love others selflessly.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, give us a sincere heart that seeks the truth, a courageous spirit that embraces the Cross and a loving heart that remains faithful to You in every trial. Teach us to place our gifts at Your service and to offer our sufferings for the good of others. May we never be overcome by fear or discouragement, but trust in Your presence and remain faithful to Your truth until the end. Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, pray for us. Amen.
